7. Re: WARLOCK OR PRIEST? | 3/27/2005 5:55:11 AM PST

I have a warlock that has been 13 for a month .. and two priests that have got to 21 and 42 in less than a month. I love the priest class in this game better than any other I've played.

Ultimatly though I believe it play style. With Priest getting 20 can be a challange, but the play styles are different.

With Warlock you'll mostly be sicking pet, throwing in some dots, making sure to soul tap at death for the shards. I don't even fight when leveling mine warklock. Grouping wise, the pets will become more valuable (just about all solo will use the void walker) even then you'll mostly be using the imp or succubus. The strong plus is, less chance of death solo, a cool summoned mount, and the general lore behind them. Bads are a little bit slower level, dependence on space taking soul shards.

With Priest you'll mostly be shielding, smite and mindblasting (mind flay when you have enough talents). Early levels the shield will drop and you have the fun moments of freaking and trying to heal yourself and hope the shield timmer comes back soon. Higher level, mobs will be dead and you'll still have the shield up and untouched. And then comes the perks of grouping. Now I've allways played priests/clerics because I love getting into situations where I'm the life support of the group, so to me this is where the priest shines and becomes fun because keeping people healed in a good and mana effecient way (to me) is a blast. Goods: allways needed, strong in the higher levels. Bads: slower leveling at first, pvp = target

6. Re: WARLOCK OR PRIEST? | 3/27/2005 5:45:40 AM PST

I'd say warlock is more fun hands down. You'll hear a lot of people around here bashing them as broken (which they are to some degree) but the warlock is by far the most fun class I've played.
The majority of their issues don't come into play until the very end-game and by the time you'd get there Bliz will have probably fixed most of them. Leveling a priest is pretty much torture until 20 and then improved to just painful until about 40. I've rerolled a shaman, priest, and a mage but I just enjoy playing the lock more.

Blizzard, your "improved" UI failed... | 3/23/2005 8:32:29 PM PST

When I heard about the upcoming changes to the UI I was excited, I thought they are actually going to make the UI better and would be able to ditch Cosmos (no offense, I love the product but not having to worry about patches would be better) and just use what the game makers supplied
.....well I was WRONG.

The improvements blow in comparison to what cosmos offered. To top it off Cosmos took features out forcing me to use Blizzards gimped replacement. =/ Everything Cosmos did was superior so why oh why Blizzard did you not ask Cosmos to just "borrow" some of thier code then pubically announce these features were graciously donoated by Cosmos. I will bet they would have agreed and then we would not have to put up with your designers "thrown together" feeling UI features.

Things i liked about cosmos now missing.....

1 - action bars that only appear on mouseover
2 - side action bars (on BOTH sides)
3 - linked action bars (so I can go through them two at a time)
4 - Buff timers in BIG bold, easy to read letters with a countdown timer in both minutes and seconds......not simply "5m"

I also liked being able to see all my party members buffs at ALL times and not just mouse over and having the life bar change color as something was damaged.

Re: Blizzard, your "improved" UI failed... | 3/23/2005 8:36:17 PM PST

Uh... Cosmos, for the most part, blows. Get rid of it and get some functional mods instead.

Anything you need you can find at :

Re: Blizzard, your "improved" UI failed... | 3/23/2005 8:39:54 PM PST

Another feature I would request -

The "Enable Text Quest Scroll" feature (disabled on cosmos by default). Cosmos allows the quest text to appear instantly so you don't have to wait for it to scroll.

An Experienced MMORPG gamer speaks on WoW.. | 3/16/2005 9:20:53 AM PST

First off, This isn't my main character. I have no idea why I can't use my Main Character to post, but his name is Nocros and he's a 54th Level Tauren Shaman on Garona. Ok... Now, moving on.

I'm not a fanboi by any means. I have never played a Blizzard game before WoW, other than Warcraft I way back in the day. I never played Diablo or Diablo II more than 5-10 minutes at the most. I just thought I'd give some insight into other games, and explain a few things.

We start back with the Grandfather of MMORPG games.. Ultima Online.

Ultima Online started out with the most horrible lag ever heard of in a game period. This alone drove many people away, but the unique concept of allowing people on interact on a huge map, battle each other in pvp, craft items & freedom in character development led many people to this game. This game is over seven years old and I've been playing six. Ultima Online still has server issues. They still have lots of problems, and their playerbase is around 200,000 players. Every expansion is a lesson in patience and virtue if you don't punch your monitor as other players rapidly get through the process and drop a prime real estate house that will allow them to become multi-millionaires by pure luck. I have stuck by UO from the beginning. I have purchased every expansion and I have several accounts there. Compared to ultima Online, WoW is far superior in Customer Support. They are far superior in server stability for a game this young. After UO expansions, you can almost expect Roll Back's that may roll back for several days. Dupe bugs periodically show up. (Although they've taken major steps to curb this now.) Speed Hackers run rampant and so do 3rd Party Hackers. It's a fact of life with that game, and although they take action, it's very hard for them to prove this. Ultima Online continously adds content to the game, although this is a new trend that started in the last year - year 1/2. Before that, they never added content except with expansions. There's still "Promised Content" from 5 expansions ago that haven't been added. Ultima Online focuses mainly on Solo Play v/s Group Play, and almost everything in the game can be accomplished with Solo Play. End Game Content IS the content, since building your character is the process you go through so you can PLAY the aspects of the game. I'd give Ultima Online about a 7 on a scale of 1-10, mainly for the progress they've made through the years, and the fact they've tried to make things better. Overall it's a good game, even with outdated graphics & a botched PvP system. UO controls 2% of the MMORPG market.

Next, We'll move to DAOC.

I loved DAOC when it first came out. I started out with a Berzerker and I played the hell out of that game. It was a great, awesome game. The server stability of DAOC was never a huge problem, although they did have long periods of time where they shut down when the game was new, so they could keep everything going and keep everything up to date. DAOC rarely adds content. The game is also incredibly tedious. It's hard to level up, when you die you lose experience points, and the game is not really a game you can play Solo after level 30. Finding a group in DAOC can be incredibly hard, even with a big guild. DAOC's end game content is very weak. You can PvP in Realm v/s Realm all you want, but it's a massive lag filled horror. There are items you can get at higher level in order to tweak your character, but getting those items is a test of patience and killing time. I'd rank DAOC about 5 out of 10. DAOC controls 3.1% of the MMORPG market.

Next up is Final Fantasy XI

I wish I could begin to describe the horrors of this game. Every aspect of it is flawed. To quote a few players, "Anything on FFXI that doesn't take 6 hours isn't worth doing". Finding a group is murder... Leveling Solo is possible, if you want to kill the same mob 800,000 times and compete with 100 other people for those slow spawning Mobs. I started out on FFXI with a White Mage. The "great" thing about FFXI is that you can't play multiple characters. You just constantly switch the skills of your one character. You're "Allowed" to play more than 1 character, but you have to pay an additional fee each month for it. You also have to use their POL brower to log in. (POL is like AOL for Japan). Server Stability on FFXI was pretty good, but that was only because they beta tested the game in Japan for a year before they released it here. (By beta test, I mean they released it there and all of the players from there were already max level with every possible uber item by the time it was released in the US.) Luckily, they did go ahead and make some American Servers, but you don't get to pick your server. Instead you are randomly picked a server, and placed there. Then you can buy tickets on that server to invite your friends. End game content? Who knows... I never made it that far. The game is so tedious and murderous that it's not worth playing to me. I know that when I was randomly chosen for a server where I was not able to communicate with any of the other players (Since they spoke Japanese), all the max level characters seem to have the exact same armor, so I'm guessing there's not much. Toss that on top of the fact that the game's economy is comletely obliterated by Ebay Farmers, and you have a game than ranks about 2 out of 10. Final Fantasy controls 6.7% of the MMORPG market.

Next is City of Heroes. Believe it or not, City of Heroes had one of the smoothest launches in history. The reason for that is because they launched with the lowest population in history :). CoH was a great game. The end game content wasn't incredibly great, but it's a new game. They're adding a new expansion called City of Villians which will introduce Hero Lairs, PvP, Arena Duels and quite a bit of other content. CoH did add content to the game, in the form of Hero Capes, Special Graphic Effects, Outdoor Missions, New Area's etc. CoH was very revolutionary with adding all of the new content on a regular basis. The game idea is very unique, so attracting a large portion of the MMORPG market is hard for them. I consider CoH one of those games you load up when you want to unwind and just laugh and the play. It's a great game, great launch and generally on top of things. CoH is an easily soloable game, up into the very high levels, and it's still doable, but easier to group up. The good point of CoH is that you can group with 1-2 others and do just fine. The only major drawback is that they have a scheduled downtime every morning that lasts 2-3 hours, so anyone who's playtime was in the morning would be drastically impacted. End Game Content is not great, but with the new stuff coming, it will get much better. I'd give CoH an 8 out of 10, but I could be biased on that, because some of my friends became frustrated with it and would probably rank it lower. City of Heroes controls 1.5% of the total MMORPG market.

There are other games out there, Lineage, Lineage II, Anarchy Online, EQ I & EQ II, but those are games I never tried. With Lineage, I never heard anything good about it, so I didn't bother. Anarchy Online would have been something I would have played, but the servers made it totally unplayable for the first 30-45 days. EQ & EQ II never interested me. The concepts behind it were just outside of my playstyle. I don't have 7 hours a day to get 1 piece of armor "Maybe" or spend years of my life trying to obtain certain items just so I can group. I have friends who did it, and they're all on WoW now... Lineage I & II together control over 50% of the MMORPG market, so I guess it must be a decent game at least. Maybe someone can write a review who has had first had experience. EQ controls 8.9% with their two releases.

Now we get to WoW... World of Warcraft. My current game. Are the servers stable? Nah, not really... But there's a reason for that... WoW has had the biggest launch in history. When you look at the current MMORPG market, and the recent launch of other games, even with Open Beta, there is NO way that WoW could have predicted they would control 15.3% of the MMORPG market within a couple months of launch. (For those keeping track, that's almost more than the population of EQ, EQ II, DAOC, UO and CoH COMBINED!! That's almost more than EQ I, EQ II & FFXI COMBINED.) This launch has been as much of a test & mind boggle for Blizzard as the Server Problems have been to us. They probably prepared, if we're lucky, they probably prepared to handle a few hundred thousand Players in the first month. Look how many servers they started out with! Look how long WoW was impossible to find in the stores. They sold out their stock & their warehouse in a matter of weeks. This game is doing it's best to get things going. We're living through history and we're living through a revolutionary experience in MMORPG history. Sure, people have complaints... It's only human. Is the end game content there... Well it's not absolute crap, and it shows improvement. Can you Solo in WoW? Yeah... You can Solo in WoW until level 60 if you choose. The only time you are forced into Grouping/Instances would be when you want the items they yield. WoW is also trying to implement things like the meeting stones to get everything going. The high level content is going to be a lot harder to deal with. The horde is horribly 10/1 outmanned for PvP. 40 man raid groups are not going to be easy to organize... But it's a young game. Let's give it a year? eh?

Constant updates throughout maintenance | 3/11/2005 10:00:53 AM PST

Well here we go again. It has been 15 hours since we have gotten any update on Frostwolf. Here is the quote from Blizzard, "We’ll do our best to provide you with constant updates throughout the maintenance period." So your best in no updates for 15 hours?!?!!? What is your idea of constant updates?!?!? Your customer service is a GOD DAMN JOKE! Tell us what the hell is going on with these servers we pay for.

I do not want 5 free days, I want a server that works and some customer service that is not total crap. You continue to have no clue Blizzard. Any one with a brain can read the boards and see how pissed players are and their constant complaints on how you treat your customers. Obviously you do not give a crap what your customers think, since you continue to ignore us.

Also you still never bother to answer why the same 20 servers are down. We get answers like the down times are not releated. BS, we are not that dumb. When the same servers have the same problems at the same time over and over and over and over and over it is petty obvious that they are related.

Quit lying to us about everything and start having some customer service. No wonder the Better Business Bureau gave you a F rating, that rating is way too high in my book. Thanks for nothing to the people who post on these fourms from Blizzard. You have no value to these boards and pretty much no useful information ever.

Here is to the worst customer service company in the world.

Are YOU a casual gamer? | 3/10/2005 7:56:56 AM PST

(I'm jealous!! - Marc)

How does one know what is casual?

I am a 35 year old professional male with a wife and 3 children (11,4,2). My wife, my 11 year old daughter and I have WoW accounts. I hold down a 50-60 hour a week job (architect) and my wife is completing her Ph.D in English. We don't play until late in the evening or on weekends due to having two small children that need lots of attention.

This leaves our play time as 8-11 during the week and a bit more on the weekends.

My characters are level: 51, 50, 41, 34, 24, 21, 20 + 10 (w/ 2 mules)

My wifes characters are level: 51, 40, 34, 30, 18 + 14 (w/ rest mules)

My daughter has a level 37 rogue and 21 warlock.

We have been playing rather rountinely since the second week of retail... its also very enjoyable and interesting to quest with my daughter as we don't like "bored games" and such. Chess here and there and WoW.

Are we casual given the <3 hour per day investment?

I would love to be involved in the new PvP system and typically spend weekend nights in SS or Ashenvale "challanging the !@!#&d."

Input?

I dont have the answer to your question. Just search the trade menu with light leather and see how it is priced on the AH.

I wouldnt stress about gold for your mount at level 30, because higher level mobs drop stuff worth more. For instance at 40-41 when I was grinding for a mount, level 36-38 turtles at dustwallow dropped stuff worth around 3gp per hour with skinning (not counting the occasional item drops). I got my mount at 41 without borrowing any money.

Helping you help your priest... | 3/6/2005 10:51:54 PM PST

The frist rule of thumb for non priests in a group with a priest:

1.) When a priest draws aggro from healing the group, the closest person to the priest stops whatever they are doing and gets the aggro off of the priest ASAP.

This may sound detrimental to your success as an individual combatant within the group, but the truth is that if you do not use this rule of thumb, it will more than likey be you and the groups down fall.

This is due to the fact that if the priest has to spend his mana healing himself, and conentrate his thoughts on his own aggro, he is NOT able to heal you, or anyone else in the group. Therefore you all die!

The second rule of thumb:

2.) Give your priest time to refill his mana pool back up after a rough battle.

If you go running ahead before you do this, you run the risk of getting the group killed, because the priest will not have enough mana built back up to handle any hairy situations that may arise from the next battle.

The third rule of thumb:

3.) Give any mana potions and such to the priest as you gather them while in the group. Unless you need them more at that time for some reason, the priest will more than likely need them allot more than anyone else in the group.

The fourth rule of thumb:

4.) Make sure you do not split up and go different directions, or go behind walls/pillars when you can help it.

This is a major bane for the priest. We can not heal you if you are not in line of sight.

We can not heal you if you are not with the rest of the group, in a different room somewhere getting yourself killed.

The fifth rule of thumb:

5.) Give your priest the benefit of the doubt. Do not be demanding of them to heal you when YOU think you need it.

He/she's whole role in life is to heal you and the rest of the group. Trust me, they usually know exactly what they are doing.

If you are running low, and they have not healed you yet, there may be some reason as to why. Look at the obvious before becoming demanding, thinking that they are not healing you on purpose for some reason.

If the priest sucks, then by all means stay on his/her arse about it.

The sixth rule of thumb:

6.) Try and play the role that your character is supposed to play within the group.

In other words, make sure the tanks are tanking, and everyone else that is drawing aggro knows how to control it by giving it back to the tanks.

Obviously we will not always have that ideal group, but once you decide who is going to do what, try and stick with this, as it makes everyones job that much easier on everyone else.

The seventh rule of thumb:

7.) Shamans, duids and Paladins are NOT priests!

By this I mean that if there is a priest in your group, they should be the MAIN healer, and all others that can heal, should become secondary healers to the priest.

This will save everyone involved mana, and a lot of confusion.

The eighth rule of thumb:

8.) Do not blame a group getting wiped on the priest.

It is very rarely due to the priest not doing their jobs.

More than likely the reason everyone got wiped was due to something I already mentioned in this post, and had nothing to with the priests ability to perform their duties as a priest.

Please look at yourself and the actual things that lead up to the wipe, rather than just blindly blaming the priest for the wipe every time.

The nineth rule of thumb:

9.) When you are out running around leveling solo out there, and see a priest running around alone... Invite them to join with you to help them level. They are secretly hoping you will.

I only say this because I do not think most people realize just how hard it is to level a priest solo.

We actually need to group with as many people as possible, as often as possible. This is because we not only need to practice doing our job in group environments on the way up, but we also most defintely need the help to level ourselves as well.

I promise you that when you bring a priest along with you, you will not only make them very happy, but you will be able to level twice as fast just having one with you.

The tenth rule of thumb:

10.) Pay attention to your pets, and do not always expect the priest to be able to watch them for you.

Your pets can inadvertantly draw a lot of unwanted aggro if you do not pay close attention to them within group environments.

We are not able to see your pets health, unless we scroll over it.

We will always give higher priority to the "Players" in the group, before even looking at your pets.

It is not a bad idea to let the priest know that your pet needs a heal from time to time, if you notice that he is a priest that is not watching your pet automatically. Just try to be polite whenever you ask.

Rules for priests to be mindfull of:

1.) When you draw aggro, and the group is right there with you, DO NOT MOVE AROUND!

Moving makes it take that much more time to get the aggro off of you. DO NOT MOVE and they can take it off of you pretty easily.

Every time you take even one step, the aggro will follow you first, then hit you, then have a chance to be taken off you by another group member.

The only reason to move when you do draw aggro, is to make sure the rest of the group knows that you have aggro, and that they need to take it off of you. At this point, just get as close to the group members as possible, so they do not have to move to far to get them off of you.

2.) Stay kinda close to the group, but not so close that you draw the aggro before the tanks and people who should be.

This way nothing came come from behind and suprise you, therefore causing you to have to run into the group to get it off of you.

3.) If there is a warlock in the group, have them give you a soul orb, so you can rez yourself if you die. This way you can still rez everyone in the group if everyone dies.

I faxed in my eBay Request for Reinstatement again today

since I haven't heard anything from my fax on February the 18th.

eBay recommended that I fax it in again since I didn't hear anything in the 5 - 10 day time frame.

I don't have anything positive to say about Bliizard or VeRO or eBay right now. I am being punished for doing nothing wrong. And, I'm not happy.
